Te mapa
Ahlat sits on the north-western shore of Lake Van in eastern Turkey, on gently sloping ground between the water and the mountains. On a map the lake dominates, a vast open surface along one side, while the town's streets spread in a loose pattern along the shore and up the slope, with orchards and fields filling the spaces between districts.
The town is best known for its Seljuk-era cemetery, a large field of carved stone gravestones, and for its kümbets, the conical-roofed tomb towers built in the medieval period. Two volcanoes frame the wider landscape: Süphan to the north-east and Nemrut to the south-west, whose caldera holds lakes of its own.
An Ahlat map poster places the town where it belongs, at the edge of a great body of water. The shoreline curves across the composition, the historic cemetery appears as an open area on the town's edge, and the roads trace the shore toward Tatvan and Adilcevaz, giving the print a wide and calm horizon.
The shore of Turkey's largest lake runs along the town's edge, a long clean line with open water filling a large part of the map.
A large historic burial ground with carved tombstones lies beside the town, visible on the map as an open area among the streets and fields.
The main road follows the lake between Tatvan and Adilcevaz, a long line linking Ahlat to the other towns of the northern shore.
