Te mapa
Al Fāw sits near the end of the Faw Peninsula, the narrow strip of land where Iraq reaches the Persian Gulf. From above, the terrain is almost entirely flat. The broad Shatt al-Arab runs along one side, and the land on the other side opens toward tidal flats and the sea. The town's streets are packed close to the waterway, with palm groves and open ground beyond.
The peninsula is Iraq's only real access to the open sea, which has made it strategically important for a long time. It was heavily fought over during the Iran–Iraq War in the 1980s. More recently, a large new port project has been under construction on the coast nearby, with the aim of turning the area into a major shipping gateway.
An Al Fāw map poster shows a town at the meeting of river, delta and sea. The composition is mostly horizontal and open, with the wide waterway as its strongest feature and the town gathered beside it.
The combined waters of the Tigris and Euphrates pass the town on their way to the Gulf, forming a wide, steady band across the map.
The land narrows toward the sea, and the flat coastline and tidal areas create long, simple edges with very little built on them.
The streets of Al Fāw gather close to the waterway, forming a compact built area within a wide, empty landscape.

The map works for people from Basra province, for those with family ties to the peninsula, and for anyone interested in the place where Iraq's great rivers finally reach the sea. Its sparseness gives it a quiet presence on a wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are all editable. You can choose Noir for a dark print or Paper for a softer tone. HD downloads cost $9 and come in six sizes, and printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
