Te mapa
Al Ḩasakah stands on the flat plains of north-eastern Syria, in the region known as the Jazira. From above, the main feature is the meeting of two rivers: the Jaghjagh comes down from the north and joins the Khabur at the city. The streets spread out around the confluence, with bridges connecting the districts on each bank.
The Khabur is the largest tributary of the Euphrates in Syria, and its valley has supported farming for thousands of years. Around Al Ḩasakah the land is mostly fields, and the city has long been a regional centre for agriculture, trade and administration in the governorate that shares its name.
An Al Ḩasakah map poster centres on water in a dry landscape. The two rivers divide the city into distinct quarters, the street grids on each side meet at different angles, and roads lead out across the plain in long, straight lines toward other towns.
The Jaghjagh and the Khabur meet within the city. Their curves divide the map into sections and determine where the bridges and main roads cross.
Each district has its own orientation of mostly straight streets, so the city appears as several grids joined along the riverbanks.
Beyond the edge of the city, roads run out across flat farmland in long direct lines, giving the composition a spare, open border.

Koteā ko Al Ḩasakah
For people from Al Ḩasakah and its region, including many who now live far away, a map of the city is a way to keep its streets and rivers close. It records the place with care and without comment.
Add a title, a subtitle in your own words and the coordinates line, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The poster makes a considered gift for family members abroad.
