Te mapa
Al Jadīd is one of the districts of Sabha, the main city of the Fezzan region in south-western Libya. On a map, it is a spread of residential blocks and walled plots, crossed by a few main roads running straight over flat ground. The pattern is looser than in a coastal city, with open spaces between neighbourhoods and long stretches where the street grid simply stops.
Sabha grew as an oasis town and later became the administrative centre of Libya's south, a crossroads for routes reaching deeper into the Sahara. Around the built-up area, irrigated palm gardens and farms break up the desert with patches of cultivated ground. Beyond them the land opens into plains of sand and gravel that stretch for hundreds of kilometres.
An Al Jadīd map poster shows a place defined by its edges, where planned streets give way to empty land. In black and white, the contrast between the dense grid and the blank desert beyond becomes the whole composition. It is calm and graphic, and reads very differently from any map of a coastal city.
Main roads cross the district in long, unbroken lines. They are the strongest strokes on the poster, linking neighbourhoods across ground that is almost entirely flat.
Patches of irrigated farmland and palm groves lie around the town. Their field boundaries form small rectangles that break up the surrounding emptiness.
At the outer edges of the map the street pattern thins out and stops. The wide blank areas left behind give the design an unusual sense of space and quiet.

Koteā ko Al Jadīd
A map of Al Jadīd is a personal choice, usually made by people who lived or grew up in Sabha and want a record of home that does not rely on photographs. Set the title in the spelling you prefer, add a subtitle, and keep the coordinates.
Sand is a natural fit for a desert city, and Classic black and white, Noir, Paper and Blueprint are also available. The $9 digital download covers six print sizes, each as a watermark-free 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
