Álamo is the main town of the municipality of Álamo Temapache in northern Veracruz, in the Huasteca lowlands. On a map, the river Pantepec curves past the urban area and gives the town a natural edge. The streets form a fairly regular grid near the centre and become looser toward the outskirts, where they meet farmland.
The area is widely known as one of Mexico's main orange-growing districts, and Álamo is often described as a centre of the country's citrus industry. Around the town, orchards and plantations cover much of the land. On a wider map, this appears as open space crossed by rural roads toward neighbouring communities.
