Te mapa
Alor is the largest island of the Alor archipelago in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province, lying north of Timor. Its interior is steep and folded, with ridges that run almost to the water, and the coastline breaks into headlands and small coves. The main town, Kalabahi, sits at the far end of a long, sheltered bay that cuts deep into the island from the west.
The terrain has kept communities apart for a long time, and Alor is known for a remarkable number of distinct local languages spoken across a relatively small area. It is also associated with moko, bronze drums that have long carried value in traditional exchange. Offshore, the straits around the archipelago draw divers for their clear, current-swept water.
On an Alor Island map poster the story is told by contrast: a scatter of winding roads threading the uplands, the calm finger of the bay, and open sea wrapping everything. Roads follow valleys and coastlines rather than any plan, which gives the print an organic, almost hand-drawn quality that holds up well even at the largest sizes.
A long, narrow inlet reaches deep into the western side of the island and ends at Kalabahi. It is the single strongest line on the map and anchors the whole composition.
Roads switch back through the uplands and trace the coast, giving the poster curving lines instead of a grid and quietly marking where people actually live.
Pantar and smaller islands of the archipelago lie to the west across narrow straits, so a wider crop frames Alor within a scattered island chain.

Koteā ko Alor Island
Alor appeals to divers who have spent time in its straits, to linguists and travellers who know its villages, and to anyone from East Nusa Tenggara living far from home. The long bay and the heavy, folded landmass make a composition with real weight on the wall.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with the dates of a trip or the name of a dive boat, and adjust the coordinates line. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, with Blueprint suiting this sea-heavy composition particularly well.
