Te mapa
‘Āmūdā lies in Al-Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria, right on the border with Turkey. It sits on the broad, flat plain of the upper Jazira. This is open farmland watered by rain and wells, known for its grain fields, and the terrain barely rises for kilometres in any direction.
That flatness shows in the map. The town is laid out in a fairly regular pattern of streets and blocks, spreading evenly because nothing gets in the way. On its northern side the urban area runs up to the international border. Across the line lies the Turkish town of Kızıltepe, and roads toward Qamishli and other towns in the region extend out across the fields.
An ‘Āmūdā map poster presents a compact, even town on an open plain, with a clear boundary along one edge. For the many people who come from ‘Āmūdā and now live elsewhere, it is a straightforward and dignified way to keep the streets of home in view.
On the flat plain, ‘Āmūdā's streets form a fairly even network of blocks. The result is a compact, balanced shape at the centre of the poster.
The northern edge of the town meets the Syria–Turkey border. On the map, the built-up area ends along a clear line that gives the composition a distinctive boundary.
Around the town, straight rural roads cross wide agricultural land. The sparse lines and open space give a sense of the scale of the plain.
