Arroyomolinos was a small farming village in the south-west of the Community of Madrid until recent decades. Then it became one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Spain, and the map shows that story clearly. A compact historic centre sits among wide, curving streets of newer housing. One of the town's oldest structures is a medieval defensive tower, a reminder of the centuries before the suburbs arrived.
