The Sim valley
The river sets the direction of the whole town. Streets, the works and housing line up along its curves, so the town's outline traces the valley floor.

Te mapa
Asha lies on the western slope of the Southern Urals in Chelyabinsk Oblast, close to the border with Bashkortostan. From above, the town follows the valley of the Sim river. Its streets stretch along the water rather than spreading outward, because wooded hills rise on both sides and leave little flat ground. The result is a long, thin plan that reads almost like a line drawing.
The town grew up around a metallurgical works founded at the end of the nineteenth century. The railway that crosses the Urals toward Chelyabinsk runs through the same valley. On the map, the plant, the tracks and the river sit side by side, and the residential blocks fill whatever space is left between them. Few settlements show so plainly how landscape and industry decide where a town can grow.
An Asha map poster turns this compressed geography into a strong vertical or diagonal composition. The dark mass of built streets follows a single corridor, and open white space presses in from the hills around it. It is a quiet, graphic portrait of a working Ural town, drawn only in the lines it actually has.
The river sets the direction of the whole town. Streets, the works and housing line up along its curves, so the town's outline traces the valley floor.
A main line across the Urals shares the valley with the river. Its long, even curve cuts through the town and gives the poster a clean structural line.
Wooded ridges close in on both sides. On the map they show as blank ground, which frames the narrow band of streets and makes the town's shape easy to read.

Koteā ko Asha
For people who grew up in Asha or worked at the plant, the map records a place defined by its valley: one river, one railway and the streets squeezed between them. It is a personal record that doesn't need a photograph to be recognised.
