Te mapa
Aungban lies in southern Shan State in Myanmar, on the plateau between Kalaw and the Heho area. The town grew at a junction where the main road across the plateau meets the route north toward Pindaya, and its streets cluster around this crossing. From above, the centre is compact, with houses and markets giving way quickly to fields on the rolling uplands.
The climate of the plateau is cool, and the land around Aungban is intensively farmed. The town is known as a trading hub for vegetables, with highland produce such as cabbages and potatoes gathered here and sent on to markets across the country. Its market day draws growers and traders from villages throughout the surrounding hills.
An Aungban map poster shows a small town defined by its roads. The crossing sits at the centre of the frame, streets gather around it, and the fields beyond appear as a quiet pattern of tracks and plots. It is a clear, uncomplicated image of a working plateau town.
The meeting of the plateau highway and the road toward Pindaya sits at the heart of Aungban, forming the crossing around which the town has grown.
Markets and trading yards lie close to the main roads, where vegetables from the surrounding farms are collected and loaded for transport to other regions.
Around the town the Shan Plateau is covered in small, intensively worked plots, which appear on the poster as light, irregular divisions of open land.
