Avilala lies on the edge of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, in the plain below the Tirumala hills. It began as a village and has become part of the city's expanding urban area. On a map, newer residential layouts and roads spread across what was once farmland, next to a large irrigation tank that forms a broad, rounded shape.
The surrounding area is defined by the proximity of Tirumala, home to the Sri Venkateswara temple, one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world.
