Te mapa
Awati lies on the edge of the Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang, where snowmelt from the surrounding mountains feeds a chain of oases around the Taklamakan Desert. From above, it is easy to see where water reaches and where it stops. Irrigated land forms a patchwork of fields and channels, and beyond it the desert begins almost abruptly.
Oasis towns in this region follow a familiar logic. Canals branch from the rivers and divide into smaller ditches, and roads, often lined with poplars, run alongside them. Villages and the town itself sit within this managed green area, so the street pattern on the map is closely tied to the irrigation network.
An Awati map poster makes that relationship visible. Fine lines of canals and roads fill the cultivated zone, while the surrounding emptiness gives the composition breathing room. It shows how people have lived on the edge of one of the world's great deserts by carefully guiding scarce water.
Canals and ditches branch through the cultivated land in a dense, tree-like pattern. This forms the basic structure of the oasis on the map.
Roads run alongside the water channels in long straight stretches, and they connect villages and fields across the irrigated plain.
Past the fields, the map empties out into open ground, a stark boundary that gives the poster its distinctive contrast.

The map appeals to anyone drawn to desert landscapes or to the oasis life of the Tarim Basin. It is also a thoughtful keepsake for people from southern Xinjiang living elsewhere.
