Te mapa
Barda lies on the Tartar River in central Azerbaijan, on the flat, irrigated plain between the Kura River and the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus. The river curves through the town, and the streets on the map are arranged around it. A denser centre gives way to more orderly blocks that spread out towards orchards and fields.
In the early medieval period Barda, then known as Partav, was the capital of Caucasian Albania and one of the major cities of the South Caucasus. Monuments such as the fourteenth-century Barda Mausoleum and the Imamzadeh complex survive from its long past, though the modern town is far smaller than its medieval predecessor.
A Barda map poster shows a modest modern town built on deep history. The river, the compact centre, and the fields and canals around it make a calm, balanced composition, especially in the Paper and Sand styles, whose warm tones suit the irrigated plain.
The river winds through the town and draws a clear, curving line across the centre of the map, with streets arranged on both banks.
The historic core is dense and irregular, while newer districts extend outwards in straighter, more regular streets.
Fields, orchards and irrigation canals surround the town, adding a fine, linear pattern to the open space beyond the built-up area.

Koteā ko Barda
Barda means something to people from the Karabakh plain and to anyone interested in the region's early medieval history. A map of its streets and river is a quiet, lasting way to keep that connection.
