Bellshill is a town in North Lanarkshire, a few miles east of Glasgow. From above, it's a dense mix of older main-street terraces and later housing estates. Curving cul-de-sacs sit next to straighter Victorian rows, and railway lines and major roads pass along its edges.
The town grew with coal mining and heavy industry, and in the late nineteenth century it drew a notable community of Lithuanian workers. Today it's known in football circles too: Sir Matt Busby was born in the Orbiston area, and the town has produced several other well-known players.
