Te mapa
Biratnagar is the capital of Koshi Province in eastern Nepal and one of the country's largest cities. It lies on the Terai, the low, flat plain along Nepal's southern border, only a few kilometres north of the Indian town of Jogbani. From above the city spreads evenly in all directions, with main roads forming a loose grid across the level ground.
The city is often described as Nepal's industrial hub. The Biratnagar Jute Mills, founded in the 1930s, is regarded as the country's first large modern industry, and factories producing textiles, food and other goods followed. On the map, industrial sites appear as larger blocks along the main roads, and the residential areas between them are filled with dense streets.
Biratnagar has also played an important part in Nepali politics as the hometown of several national leaders. Its airport lies on the edge of the city, and rivers and streams from the hills to the north cross the surrounding plain. A Biratnagar map poster captures a lowland city shaped by trade, industry and its closeness to the border.
Main roads divide the flat plain into large, roughly regular sections, giving the city an even, spreading layout that looks orderly in black and white.
The road south leads a short distance to Jogbani on the Indian border. This key trade route shapes the growth of the city's southern side.
The runway of Biratnagar's domestic airport forms a long, straight shape near the city and is one of the clearest single features on the map.
