Te mapa
Bnei Brak lies just east of Tel Aviv, sharing borders with Ramat Gan and other towns in the Gush Dan metropolitan area. It covers a small area but is among the most densely populated cities in Israel, and the map shows it immediately: blocks of apartment buildings packed along narrow streets, with very little open space between them.
The modern city was founded in 1924 by religious Jewish settlers, and it has become one of the main centres of Haredi life in the world, with many yeshivas, synagogues and small shops. The name, however, is much older. The Passover Haggadah recounts a seder held by rabbis in ancient Bnei Brak, a story read at family tables every year.
Several main commercial streets cross the grid in long straight lines, and a major highway runs along the eastern edge of the city. A Bnei Brak map poster captures a place defined by density and continuity, where a small footprint holds a large and closely knit community.
Short blocks and narrow streets filled with apartment buildings create one of the most compact urban textures in Israel, rendered in fine, even lines.
A few long thoroughfares cross the city and carry most of its shops and traffic, giving the tight grid a clear sense of direction.
A major road runs along the eastern side of Bnei Brak, forming a firm boundary between the city and its neighbours in the wider Tel Aviv area.
