Te mapa
Bornholm sits alone in the Baltic Sea, much closer to the Swedish coast than to Copenhagen. From above it looks like a rounded block of land. The coast is mostly smooth, with small harbour towns spaced around it, and the road network runs outward from the middle of the island like the spokes of a wheel. The largest town, Rønne, faces west towards the open water.
The geology changes as you move from north to south, and a map shows it clearly. In the north, granite rises into the cliffs of Hammeren, where the ruins of Hammershus stand above the sea. The centre of the island is covered by Almindingen, a large forest crossed by straight paths. In the south the land flattens out towards the long white sand at Dueodde, one of the island's best-known beaches.
A Bornholm map poster shows why the island is so often called Denmark in miniature: cliffs, farmland, woods and beaches all fit into a shape small enough to cross by bicycle in a day. The island's four medieval round churches, built partly as places of refuge, add small landmarks to a road network that is otherwise quiet and rural.
The granite knob at the island's northern tip ends in steep cliffs, and the ruin of Hammershus, one of the largest castle ruins in Northern Europe, overlooks the water.
A broad block of woodland fills the middle of the island. On the map it appears as a quiet space crossed by straight forest tracks, with farmland all around it.
At the southern tip the coastline softens into wide dunes and pale sand, a clear contrast to the rocky north that shows up well in black and white.

Koteā ko Bornholm
For many people Bornholm is the summer island they come back to year after year: the same harbour, the same cycling route, the same beach. A single print of its rounded outline brings those trips together, and a clean monochrome map suits the island's granite and pine.
Change the title, add a subtitle with a family name or the year of a first visit, and set the coordinates line to a favourite harbour. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit the room.
