Te mapa
Bussang lies in the upper valley of the Moselle in the southern Vosges, close to where the river begins. On a map the town follows the valley floor. Its streets line up with the main road, which climbs east toward the Col de Bussang and down into Alsace. Wooded hills rise on both sides, with farms and small hamlets along the side valleys.
The town is known for the Théâtre du Peuple, a wooden theatre founded in 1895 by Maurice Pottecher. The back of its stage opens onto the forest outside. Bussang is also known for its mineral springs, and in winter a small ski area on the slopes above town draws families from across the region.
A Bussang map poster is gentle, not dramatic. These are old, rounded mountains, so road and river curve with the valley instead of zigzagging up it. Houses are scattered across the hillsides, as is typical of the Vosges, which gives the map a soft, spread-out texture around the denser centre.
The Moselle rises on the slopes near the Col de Bussang. On the map its young stream can be followed down through the town and on toward the rest of Lorraine.
The road east climbs gently to the pass on the old boundary between Lorraine and Alsace. It forms a clear line leading out of the valley.
The wooden theatre stands close to the wooded slopes, which suits a building whose stage opens directly onto the trees. It is the landmark most visitors come looking for.

Koteā ko Bussang
Bussang means different things to different visitors: summer theatre, a winter weekend on the slopes, a walk to the source of a great river. A map of the town brings those together in one calm, graphic image for the wall.
