Cagnes-sur-Mer lies on the Côte d'Azur between Nice and Antibes, facing the Baie des Anges. The map shows three layers. Along the coast is Cros-de-Cagnes, the old fishing quarter, with a long seafront road. Behind it lie the modern town centre and the racecourse near the shore. Above them, on a hill, is Haut-de-Cagnes, the medieval village.
Haut-de-Cagnes is built around the Château Grimaldi, and its lanes wind in tight curves to the top of the hill. Pierre-Auguste Renoir spent the last years of his life at Les Collettes, an estate with olive trees on a hillside in the town. The house is now a museum dedicated to him.
