Bay and waterfront
The shoreline curves around the town centre, and the open Caribbean fills a large part of the map. This gives the poster a clean, unbroken edge.

Te mapa
Carúpano lies on the Caribbean coast of Sucre State, on the approach to the Paria Peninsula. The town occupies a narrow strip of flat land around a bay, with hills rising close behind, so its streets form a compact pattern pressed between sea and slope. Roads follow the coast east and west and link Carúpano with fishing villages and beaches along the shore.
For much of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Carúpano was an important port for cocoa exports, and its older buildings reflect that trade. It also has a place in Venezuelan history: in 1816 Simón Bolívar issued a decree there proclaiming the freedom of slaves. Today the town is widely known for its carnival, one of the most celebrated in the country.
A Carúpano map poster sets the town's grid against the smooth arc of the coastline and the irregular contours of the land behind. Because so much of the frame is sea, the composition is open and calm, and the dense streets near the waterfront stand out clearly in black and white.
The shoreline curves around the town centre, and the open Caribbean fills a large part of the map. This gives the poster a clean, unbroken edge.
The historic core near the port follows a regular grid of streets. It forms a small, dense block of lines between the waterfront and the rising ground.
Roads run along the coast toward Paria in one direction and Cumaná in the other. They trace the shoreline and connect the town with neighbouring coves and villages.

Koteā ko Carúpano
