Te mapa
Chatham is the largest community in the municipality of Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario, between Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. On a map, the Thames River winds through the city in wide, lazy curves, and the downtown sits close to its banks. Around it, the streets follow a regular grid, and beyond the city limits the flat farmland is divided into long rectangular fields.
The area has a significant place in Canadian history. In the nineteenth century, Chatham was a destination for people escaping slavery in the United States via the Underground Railroad, and the nearby Buxton settlement is a well-known part of that story. Farther up the Thames, Tecumseh died in 1813 at the Battle of the Thames.
A Chatham map poster shows the contrast between the meandering river and the straight lines of the town and fields. In monochrome, the smooth curves of the Thames and the steady grid make a calm and balanced composition.
The river winds through the city in broad curves, the main natural feature of the map and the historic reason for the town's location.
Chatham's streets follow a mostly regular grid near the river, giving the centre of the map a clear, orderly structure.
Beyond the city, the land is divided into long rectangular fields, reflecting the rich, level agricultural land of Chatham-Kent.

Koteā ko Chatham
Chatham means home to many, and for others it is a place tied to family history, including the story of the Underground Railroad. A map of the city is a meaningful way to keep that connection close.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Printed posters come on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
