Te mapa
Civitavecchia sits on the Tyrrhenian coast north of Rome, and its map is dominated by the port. Long breakwaters and quays reach out into the sea and enclose large basins, and the town's streets spread inland from the harbour in a fairly regular pattern. The coastline runs straight to the north and south, and the hills rise gently behind the town.
The harbour goes back to Emperor Trajan, who built a port here in the second century, then known as Centumcellae. Today Civitavecchia is one of the Mediterranean's busiest cruise ports and the main sea gateway to Rome, with ferries to Sardinia and other destinations. Forte Michelangelo, a Renaissance fortress, still guards the harbour entrance.
A Civitavecchia map poster is built around the contrast between land and water. The geometric shapes of the port's piers and moles extend into the empty sea, and the town's blocks fill the land behind them. It is a strong, graphic composition that will appeal to anyone who has sailed from here or waited on the quay.

The Renaissance fortress stands by the old harbour, its compact footprint visible at the point where the town meets the port.
North and south of the town, the shore runs in a long, clean line, framing the harbour as the one place where the coast is built out.

Koteā ko Civitavecchia
Civitavecchia means departure and arrival: a cruise, a ferry to Sardinia, a first view of Italy on the way to Rome. People hang it to remember a voyage or a family link to the Lazio coast.
Personalise the title with a ship's name or trip, put the sailing date in the subtitle, and keep the coordinates of the quay. Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand are all available.
