Te mapa
Coatbridge lies in North Lanarkshire, a few miles east of Glasgow, on ground that was transformed by the iron industry in the nineteenth century. The map shows a town shaped by transport: railway lines converge from several directions, the course of the Monkland Canal runs through, and motorways skirt the edges, all threading between terraces, estates and green spaces.
Once known as the Iron Burgh, Coatbridge grew rapidly around its ironworks and drew many workers from Ireland, a heritage still strongly felt in the town. Summerlee, the Museum of Scottish Industrial Life, now occupies a former ironworks site beside the canal, preserving part of the story that the street plan still tells.
A Coatbridge map poster is dense with overlapping lines, from the curves of rail junctions to the tight grids of older housing. Patches of parkland and former industrial ground open up the composition, giving it rhythm. It is a map for people who grew up here and for anyone interested in how industry drew the shape of a town.
Several rail lines meet and cross in and around Coatbridge, drawing long sweeping curves that are among the most distinctive features of the map.
The route of the historic canal that once carried coal and iron runs through the town, including the stretch beside the Summerlee museum site.
Housing estates with curving closes sit between parks and former industrial land, giving the map a varied texture of dense blocks and open spaces.

Koteā ko Coatbridge
Coatbridge means a great deal to the families who have lived there for generations, and to many who have since moved away. A map of the streets is a way to keep that connection visible at home.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a street name or year, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy $9 HD files, or order a printed poster on matte paper with an optional wooden frame.
