Te mapa
Coney Island is a narrow strip of land at the southern edge of Brooklyn, facing the Atlantic. It was once a true island, but landfill has joined it to the mainland along Coney Island Creek. On the map, the shape is clear: a long, straight beach along the south, the boardwalk running parallel to it, and a regular grid of streets filling the land between the boardwalk and the creek.
Coney Island has been a seaside resort since the late nineteenth century. The amusement area around Surf Avenue is its centre. The wooden Cyclone roller coaster, opened in 1927, and the Wonder Wheel, from 1920, still operate there. Nathan's Famous, founded in 1916, holds a hot dog eating contest every Fourth of July.
At the western end, residential neighbourhoods such as Sea Gate occupy the tip of the peninsula. Stillwell Avenue station, the terminus of several subway lines, anchors the district from the north. A Coney Island map poster emphasises the long lines of beach, boardwalk and ocean, all running east to west.
The Riegelmann Boardwalk runs for several kilometres along the beach. It is one of the longest, straightest lines on any map of New York City.
The rides and attractions near Surf Avenue form a dense block between the boardwalk and the streets, the historic heart of the resort.
A narrow waterway along the northern side marks the old island's edge. It separates the district from the rest of Brooklyn on the map.

Koteā ko Coney Island
Coney Island is tied to summers: childhood rides, beach days, first dates on the boardwalk. A map captures the long line of the shore that everyone who has been there remembers.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a year or a name, and edit the coordinates if you wish. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand gives the beach and boardwalk a warm, sunlit feel.
