Te mapa
Coronel Fabriciano sits in hilly country, and the street map shows it straight away. Roads follow contour lines instead of a grid. They loop around slopes and meet at odd angles, and the densest neighbourhoods fill the valley floors between green ridges. On the eastern side the city runs down towards the Piracicaba River.
The city belongs to the Vale do Aço, the Steel Valley, a metropolitan area shaped by the steel industry that grew up here in the twentieth century. Coronel Fabriciano shares the valley with Ipatinga and Timóteo. On the ground the three places merge almost seamlessly, but each keeps its own centre.
A Coronel Fabriciano map poster captures that terrain-driven layout. Winding residential streets branch off a few main roads. Pockets of open, wooded land stay unbuilt because they are too steep. The result is a composition full of organic curves, very different from the straight grids found in many Brazilian cities.
Roads bend around hillsides and fork into short branches, leaving an organic, almost leaf-like pattern across the residential districts.
The river corridor to the east marks the lower ground of the valley and anchors the edge of the city in the composition.
Main roads tie the city to its neighbours in the Vale do Aço, and on a wider crop the three urban areas read as one continuous settlement.
