Dalaman lies in Muğla Province on Turkey's southwestern coast. It is best known as the home of Dalaman Airport, one of the main gateways to Fethiye, Göcek and Marmaris. The town itself is a few kilometres inland, set on a wide, flat plain formed by the Dalaman River as it approaches the Mediterranean.
From above the plain is a patchwork of fields crossed by irrigation channels and straight rural roads. The town has a regular pattern of streets, and the airport's runway lies between it and the coast as a clear straight line on the map. Toward the sea the river divides into channels, reed beds and lagoons, with sandy beaches along the shore, and mountains rise around the edges of the plain.
