Dehu Road lies on the northwestern edge of the Pune metropolitan area in Maharashtra. It is a cantonment town, and its map reflects that. There are large, orderly military areas with open ground and straight internal roads, and a denser civilian bazaar area beside them. The Mumbai–Pune railway and major roads pass through the district, connecting it in both directions.
The town takes its name from nearby Dehu, the village on the Indrayani River associated with the poet-saint Sant Tukaram. Every year, pilgrims set out from Dehu on the Palkhi procession to Pandharpur. Between the cantonment, the rail station and the growing suburbs of Pimpri-Chinchwad, the area has changed quickly in recent decades.
