Te mapa
Deli Tua is a town in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, directly south of Medan, the largest city on Sumatra. From above it is hard to tell where the city ends and the town begins. Dense streets follow the main roads south, and narrow lanes branch off them into neighbourhoods of closely built houses.
The name comes from the old Deli region, once the seat of a Malay sultanate and later known for its tobacco plantations. Deli Tua is also linked with the local legend of Putri Hijau, the Green Princess. The area's rivers flow north toward Medan and the Strait of Malacca, and their valleys still break up the built-up pattern.
A Deli Tua map poster captures a common but rarely drawn kind of place: the fast-growing edge of a large Southeast Asian city. In black and white, the thick web of lanes, the long roads to Medan and the green gaps along the river valleys make a dense, absorbing composition with detail in every corner.
A busy road runs north toward central Medan, lined by the town's densest streets. It forms a strong axis that ties Deli Tua to the city.
Narrow residential lanes, known locally as gang, branch off the main roads in close rows. They create a fine, busy texture across most of the map.
Rivers flowing north toward Medan cut shallow valleys through the area. Building thins out there, and green space interrupts the dense pattern of streets.

Koteā ko Deli Tua
Deli Tua is home to families who have lived there for generations and to newer arrivals working in Medan. A map of the town marks one specific neighbourhood inside a large metropolitan area: the lane where a house stands or where someone grew up.
