Te mapa
Djakotomé is a commune town in the Kouffo department of south-western Benin, close to the border with Togo. From above, the settlement spreads around its main roads with an open, low-density pattern. Compounds, courtyards and small lanes fill the spaces between the routes, and the edges blend gradually into farmland instead of stopping at a clear boundary.
The Kouffo area is agricultural, with fields, oil palms and scattered villages across gently undulating ground. Roads link Djakotomé with neighbouring communes and with the regional towns around it, and on a map they form the main structure of the design. The Mono river, which marks much of the frontier with Togo, runs through the country to the west.
A Djakotomé map poster reduces all this to clear, balanced lines. The main roads carry the composition, the finer lanes add texture around them, and the open land keeps the image light. It is an understated portrait of a place that rarely appears on printed maps, made for the people who know it best.
Djakotomé grew around the routes connecting it with the rest of Kouffo. On the poster those roads become the frame that holds the whole design together.
Between the main roads, small paths and lanes link family compounds, creating a soft, irregular texture that differs from any planned grid.
The town sits in the far south-west of Benin, and the country towards the Mono river and the frontier stretches beyond the edge of the map.
