Te mapa
Dooru Verinag lies in the south of the Kashmir Valley, in Anantnag district, where the valley floor narrows and rises into the Pir Panjal range. On a map the town sits at a meeting of landscapes. Farmland and orchards spread across the flat ground to the north. To the south, contour-bending roads and dense forest climb toward the mountain passes.
The area is best known for the Verinag spring, traditionally regarded as the source of the Jhelum River. The spring rises into an octagonal stone basin built by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in the early seventeenth century, surrounded by an arcade and a formal garden. From the spring, a small stream sets off north across the valley.
A Dooru Verinag map poster shows how the water leaves the mountains. The Mughal geometry at the spring, the looser street pattern of the town and the fields along the stream are all traced in fine line work. The mountain roads that climb away behind them give the print a strong vertical sense of direction.

From the spring, a narrow watercourse winds north across the valley floor, past fields and orchards. It is the first stretch of a river that later runs through Srinagar and on into Pakistan.
To the south, roads switch back up forested slopes toward the high passes. The tight bends contrast sharply with the flatter, more open valley below.

Koteā ko Dooru Verinag
The map speaks to anyone with roots in south Kashmir, or anyone who has stood at the spring and watched the water rise. It shows where a major river begins, and that is a good story to have on a wall.
