Doral lies in Miami-Dade County just west of Miami International Airport, on flat land that was once part of the eastern edge of the Everglades. Incorporated in 2003, it is one of the newer cities in South Florida, and its map is dominated by large blocks: warehouse districts, gated residential communities, golf courses and a surprising number of man-made lakes.
Major highways frame the city, with the Palmetto Expressway on the east, the Florida Turnpike to the west and the Dolphin Expressway along the south.
