Durant is the seat of Bryan County in south-eastern Oklahoma, a short drive north of the Red River and the Texas line. It is the headquarters of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and it is home to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The town has long called itself the Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma. On a map it looks like a classic railroad-era town grid, with highway corridors wrapped around it.
The downtown blocks line up neatly, and residential streets extend the same pattern in every direction. US 69/75 runs north to south along the eastern side, while US 70 crosses east to west.
