Te mapa
East Orange occupies a compact wedge of Essex County between Newark to the east and the Oranges to the west, a city of closely spaced streets and small blocks lined with houses and apartment buildings. From above, very little open ground interrupts the pattern, so the poster reads as an almost continuous weave of residential lanes, broken only by parks, school grounds and transport corridors.
Two highways shape the modern map. Interstate 280 runs east to west across the city and the Garden State Parkway passes north to south, so the two routes form a large cross over the older street grid, meeting at an interchange inside the city. The NJ Transit line toward Morristown runs through East Orange as well, with stations at Brick Church and East Orange.
East Orange was once part of the old Orange township and became a separate municipality in the nineteenth century, growing quickly as a railroad suburb of Newark and New York. An East Orange map poster captures that inheritance: a dense commuter city whose street pattern still follows the rail line that helped build it.

Small blocks and closely spaced streets cover nearly every part of the city, producing a dense, even texture that fills the poster from edge to edge.

Koteā ko East Orange
East Orange is a place of neighbourhoods, congregations and school years, and many people carry a particular block in memory long after moving away. A map poster marks that street, and the dense grid holds up well as a graphic piece in a hallway or living room.
