Spaced compounds
Houses and compounds stand apart from each other instead of forming dense blocks. On the poster this gives an open, scattered texture.

Te mapa
Elghabra is a settlement in the Assaba region of southern Mauritania, in the Sahel belt between the Sahara and the wetter lands further south. The landscape is wide and open. On a map, the settlement appears as a loose grouping of lanes and compounds, with sandy tracks leading away across a mostly empty plain.
Life in this part of Mauritania has long depended on herding, seasonal farming and the rains, which vary a great deal from year to year. Settlements tend to be spread out, with compounds set apart from each other and plenty of open ground between them. The map shows this spacing clearly.
An Elghabra map poster is spare, almost minimalist. There are few lines, the gaps are wide and the whole picture is balanced by the space around the settlement. It is an honest portrait of a small Sahel community, drawn without decoration.
Houses and compounds stand apart from each other instead of forming dense blocks. On the poster this gives an open, scattered texture.
Unpaved tracks lead out from the settlement toward neighbouring villages and grazing land. They cross the map as thin, wandering lines.
The surrounding land is flat and largely unbuilt. This leaves a wide pale field in which the settlement sits like a small mark.

Koteā ko Elghabra
For Mauritanians with roots in Assaba, a map of Elghabra is a rare way to see home in print. Few places this small appear in any atlas, which makes a personal map more meaningful.
You can add a title, subtitle and coordinates, including a name in Arabic if you like. Sand suits the Sahel setting, and Classic black & white, Noir, Paper and Blueprint are also available.
