Embarcación lies in the far north of Salta province, on the Bermejo River, where the Andean foothills give way to the flat, forested plains of the Gran Chaco. The name, Spanish for a boat or a place of embarkation, points back to the river. On a map that link is still clear: the town's regular blocks sit close to a wide, braided channel that shifts between sandbanks.
The town grew as a railway junction, with lines branching north toward the Bolivian border and east across the Chaco toward Formosa. The streets form a compact grid of square blocks around a central plaza. Beyond the grid, the pattern gives way to farm plots, dry forest and the long straight lines of national highways running out toward distant towns.
The surrounding region is home to Wichí and other Indigenous communities, and the town acts as a market and service centre for a wide rural area. An Embarcación map poster shows the essentials of this frontier town: a river, a grid, a railway and roads meeting at the edge of the Chaco, with open country stretching away on every side.

Rail lines converge here before splitting north toward Bolivia and east across the Chaco. Their long straight alignments cut across the flat land around the town.
Like many Argentine towns, Embarcación is laid out in regular square blocks around a central plaza, a clear and symmetrical pattern that suits a minimalist print.

Koteā ko Embarcación
For people from northern Salta, or anyone who has crossed the Chaco by road or rail, Embarcación marks the turning point between mountains and plains. Its map is simple and legible: a grid held between a river and the routes leading away from it.
