Espelkamp Map Poster & Print
Espelkamp lies in the Minden-Lübbecke district in the northeast of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is one of the youngest towns in the state, founded after the Second World War on the grounds of a former army munitions facility hidden in the forest. It was built to house refugees and displaced people from the east, and its layout still shows that deliberate planning.
From above, the streets curve and loop through generous green space and woodland rather than following an old market-town pattern. Residential areas, schools and industrial zones sit in distinct clusters, connected by broad roads. The result is an unusually open, organised town plan with trees threaded through it.
