Te mapa
Farato lies in the Upper River region, the easternmost part of The Gambia, where the country narrows to a strip of land on either side of the Gambia River. The terrain is flat and open, with savanna, farmland and seasonal wetlands. The town appears on the map as a loose spread of lanes and compounds rather than a dense core.
Life in this region follows the rains and the river, with rice grown in low-lying areas and groundnuts and millet on higher ground. Basse Santa Su, the regional centre, lies nearby. Roads connect the smaller towns to it and to the crossing points on the river.
A Farato map poster renders this spare landscape in simple, open lines. Paths meet at irregular angles and compounds form soft clusters. With little heavy infrastructure, the map leaves plenty of white space, which gives the print a light, airy quality that suits a calm interior.
Homes and family compounds gather in loose groups linked by sandy lanes. On the map they form soft, rounded clusters instead of regular blocks.
Farato lies in the upper Gambia River valley, where low-lying land floods in the rainy season and the river shapes farming and travel across the region.
Around the town, the land is flat and open, with fields and scattered trees. The map shows only a few tracks crossing it, leaving wide empty areas.

For Gambians at home and in the diaspora, the name of a home town carries weight. A map of Farato keeps its lanes and surroundings close, and it makes a thoughtful gift for a parent, a relative or someone setting up a new home abroad.
