Te mapa
Fernley sits in the high desert of western Nevada, about half an hour east of Reno along Interstate 80. The town grew up around irrigated farmland, and from above it is still shaped by that origin: residential streets and cul-de-sacs fill a broad valley floor, while the Truckee Canal cuts a long, steady line through town on its way toward Lahontan Reservoir.
Fernley was incorporated as a city only in 2001, and much of its street pattern reflects growth since then, with newer subdivisions laid out in loops and curves beside older agricultural roads. Beyond the edge of town the map empties into desert, with the Truckee River to the north and bare ranges on the horizon, giving the whole image a sharp sense of boundary.
A Fernley map poster works because the layout is so distinct from the landscape around it. The interstate and the canal act as two strong lines, the neighbourhoods fill the space between them, and the surrounding emptiness frames the town cleanly. It is a modern, graphic map of a place that is still defining its shape.
Built in the early twentieth century to carry water to farms in the Lahontan Valley, the canal runs straight through Fernley and forms one of the clearest lines on the poster.
The interstate passes along the town, linking it with Reno to the west and the open Nevada desert to the east, and draws a firm edge across the map.
Curving streets and cul-de-sacs from recent growth sit beside the straighter rural roads of Fernley's farming past, a mix that gives the map both order and movement.
