Te mapa
Gorizia lies in north-eastern Italy where the Isonzo river leaves the Alpine foothills for the Friulian plain. Its old centre is gathered below a hill crowned by a medieval castle, with streets and squares descending from the slopes toward the more spacious districts that grew while the town was part of the Habsburg lands.
What makes the map unusual is the border. After the Second World War a new boundary divided the area, and Nova Gorica was built on the Yugoslav side. Today the two towns form one continuous urban area, and the frontier runs through the square in front of the Transalpina railway station, where visitors can stand with a foot in each country.
In 2025 Gorizia and Nova Gorica shared the title of European Capital of Culture. A Gorizia map poster tells that story in its lines: the castle hill, the winding Isonzo, and a street plan that continues across a border which no longer interrupts it.
The castle sits on a rise above the old town, and the curving streets that wrap around its slopes create a clear focal point at the centre of the composition.
The river runs along the western side of the city in a green corridor, its bends marking the transition from Alpine valleys to open plain.
The shared square where Italy meets Slovenia appears as an open space between the two towns, a striking detail where one street network flows into another.

Gorizia speaks to anyone interested in borders, history and the way cities adapt. For families with roots on either side of the line, a map showing both towns together can mean a great deal, and it makes a thoughtful gift.
Personalise the title and subtitle, for example with both town names or a date, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Six print sizes come in the $9 HD download, or order a matte printed poster.
