Dock basins
The port's rectangular basins and quays cut sharp, man-made shapes into the Forth shoreline. They are the most distinctive geometry anywhere on the map.

Te mapa
Grangemouth grew up in the late eighteenth century at the eastern end of the Forth and Clyde Canal, where the waterway met the River Carron and the Firth of Forth. That role as a transfer point between canal and sea shaped everything that followed. It became a major port and later one of Scotland's largest petrochemical complexes, whose refinery dominated the town for generations.
On the map the town reads in layers. The residential streets sit inland, in a planned pattern of crescents and avenues. Towards the water, the grain gets coarser: dock basins, storage yards, rail sidings and large industrial plots run down to the mudflats of the Forth. The Carron and the Avon mark the edges on either side.
A Grangemouth map poster shows a town built around moving goods between water and land. The geometric dock basins stand out clearly in black and white, and nearby, towards Falkirk, the Helix park is home to the Kelpies, the two giant horse-head sculptures that stand beside the canal.
The port's rectangular basins and quays cut sharp, man-made shapes into the Forth shoreline. They are the most distinctive geometry anywhere on the map.
The Forth and Clyde Canal, which crosses Scotland to the Clyde, reaches the east coast here. The town was founded to serve it.
The River Carron and the River Avon run into the Forth on either side of the town. Together they frame the built area between two winding lines.
