Te mapa
Hempstead is one of the oldest settlements on Long Island, founded in the 1640s, and today it is a large incorporated village in the middle of Nassau County. On a map it looks denser than the suburbs around it. The streets are tightly packed, and the downtown sits where several main roads meet.
The Long Island Rail Road's Hempstead Branch ends here, and the terminal is a fixed point in the village centre. Hofstra University occupies a large campus to the east of the village. Its open lawns and paths stand out clearly from the residential blocks around it.
A Hempstead map poster shows a place that was a town long before the suburbs arrived. The older centre has irregular, angled streets where roads from different directions come together. Around it, the later grids of Long Island spread out in more regular patterns, so the whole map moves from old to newer as your eye travels outward.
Several main roads meet in the village centre and create angled intersections. This pattern comes from Hempstead's long history as a meeting point for roads across the island.
The Hempstead Branch of the Long Island Rail Road ends in the village. Its tracks form a clear line on the map, leading toward the centre.
Hofstra University's grounds form a large, open area with their own internal paths. They give the eastern side of the poster a distinct and calmer texture.

Koteā ko Hempstead
Hempstead is where many families first settled on Long Island, and where many students spent their university years. A map of the village keeps those years and addresses in view.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a graduation year. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Printed posters come on matte paper, with or without a wooden frame.
