Te mapa
Harlem lies in upper Manhattan, north of Central Park, where the regular street grid continues but meets a more varied landscape. To the west, Morningside Park and St. Nicholas Park follow a steep rocky ridge, and to the east the Harlem River separates Manhattan from the Bronx. Marcus Garvey Park rises as a rocky outcrop in the middle of the grid, interrupting the avenue that runs through it.
125th Street is the district's main east-west street and home to the Apollo Theater. Wide avenues including Lenox Avenue, also called Malcolm X Boulevard, run north through rows of brownstones. In the early twentieth century Harlem was the centre of the Harlem Renaissance, a flowering of African American literature, music and art.
A Harlem map poster shows the grid at its most spacious. Broad avenues and long blocks give the print a measured rhythm, while the ridge parks along the western edge and the curve of the river on the east frame it with irregular natural lines.
The main crosstown street runs across the district from river to river. On the poster it stands out as a strong horizontal line through the grid.
Morningside and St. Nicholas Parks follow a steep escarpment on the western side, drawn as long narrow green strips along the edge of the grid.
A rocky hill in the middle of the district interrupts Fifth Avenue, which bends around it, one of the few breaks in Harlem's regular street pattern.

Koteā ko Harlem
Harlem carries family histories, music and a strong sense of place, and many people want a map of the blocks where they grew up or first lived in New York. The broad grid looks calm and dignified on a wall.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a street name or a family year, and adjust the coordinates line. Classic black and white suits the brownstone streets, while Noir gives the print a strong, jazz-age character.
