Hermitage is a community in the eastern part of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, spread between the Cumberland River and J. Percy Priest Lake. On a map it is framed by water on several sides. Curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs fill the land between the larger arterial roads and the straight line of Interstate 40.
The community takes its name from The Hermitage, the plantation home of President Andrew Jackson, which lies near the river at the northern edge of the area. The estate is now a museum. Its fields and tree lines show up as open space among the subdivisions, a reminder that this ground is much older than the streets around it.

The river curves along the northern side of the community, a broad, smooth line on the map that contrasts with the jagged, branching edges of the lake.
