Te mapa
High Blantyre is the upper part of Blantyre, in South Lanarkshire, on rising ground south of the River Clyde and south-east of Glasgow. On a map it appears as a network of residential streets that merge with the rest of Blantyre, with main roads running through and green spaces and fields on the southern edge.
The area's history is tied to coal. In October 1877, an explosion at the Dixon's pits near High Blantyre killed more than 200 miners, the worst mining disaster in Scottish history. The pits are long gone, but the memory remains strong locally. Nearby, in Low Blantyre, David Livingstone was born in 1813 in a mill tenement by the Clyde.
A High Blantyre map poster is a print for people with Lanarkshire roots, especially families with a mining history. It shows today's streets, from the older rows to the post-war housing, set on a slope that falls toward the Clyde. In black and white it has a sober, respectful tone that suits the place.
The village sits on higher land south of the Clyde valley. Streets fall away to the north toward Low Blantyre and the river, giving the map a gentle slope.
A mix of older rows and later housing estates creates a varied street pattern, from straight lines to curved crescents and closes.
Parks, playing fields and farmland border the southern part of the village, adding open space where the built area stops.
