Hîncești lies southwest of Chișinău, in the rolling hills of central Moldova. The town fills a valley along the Cogâlnic river, and the map shows streets spreading across the valley floor and partway up the slopes, with orchards, vineyards and fields beyond. The main road to Chișinău leaves to the northeast.
The town's best-known landmark is the nineteenth-century manor of Manuc Bey, an Armenian merchant and diplomat who acquired the estate in the early 1800s. The restored palace complex, with its hunting lodge and grounds, is one of Moldova's notable historic sites and shows on the map as a patch of parkland set apart from the streets.
