Te mapa
Hopkins lies just west of Minneapolis in Hennepin County, a small city surrounded by larger suburbs. From above, its core is a clear, traditional grid centred on Mainstreet, with shops and older houses on straight blocks. Around that centre, curving suburban streets, highway interchanges and industrial land fill out the city limits.
The city is known locally for its Raspberry Festival, held each summer since the 1930s, a nod to the berry farms that once surrounded it. Former rail corridors crossing Hopkins now carry regional bike trails, and the city is on the route of the Green Line light rail extension. Minnehaha Creek winds through the north side of town.
A Hopkins map poster shows a small-town grid inside a metropolitan area, bounded by highways and threaded with trails and water. It suits anyone who lives on the west side of the Twin Cities or remembers summers at the festival.
Hopkins' historic commercial street runs east–west through the centre. It anchors a tight grid of older blocks that stands out against the suburban street pattern around it.
Former railway lines now carry regional bike trails through the city. On the map they appear as long, smooth lines crossing the street grid.
The creek curves through northern Hopkins on its way toward Minneapolis. It brings a thin, meandering line of water into an otherwise ordered plan.
