Te mapa
Inongo sits on the eastern shore of Lake Mai-Ndombe, a broad, shallow lake in the forested lowlands of the Congo Basin. On a map the town reads as a narrow band of streets along the waterline, with the lake filling much of the frame as a plain, calm surface. The open water gives the whole composition a large empty space to work against.
As the capital of Mai-Ndombe province, Inongo is the administrative centre for a large and thinly populated region where the lake and its rivers have long served as roads. The street pattern is simple and spread out. Roads run parallel to the shore and branch inland towards the surrounding bush and farmland, then thin out into tracks.
An Inongo map poster keeps that contrast between built ground and water. The shoreline becomes the main line of the design, the streets form a light texture beside it, and the lake stays blank. The result is quiet and clear, and it suits a place defined more by its setting than by any dense urban core.
The eastern shore of Lake Mai-Ndombe runs through the composition as one long curving edge, separating the town's streets from a wide field of open water.
The main roads follow the line of the lake, so the town grows lengthwise along the water rather than outward, giving the map a long, horizontal feel.
Inland, the street network loosens and fades into tracks and scattered plots, marking the change from town to the forested country of the Congo Basin.

Koteā ko Inongo
For people from Inongo, or those who have worked or travelled on Lake Mai-Ndombe, this map holds a place that is rarely shown in print. The shoreline and the plain streets bring back a particular stretch of water and the town beside it.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name or a date that matters, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint and Sand work especially well with the large lake surface.
