Te mapa
Ios lies in the southern Cyclades between Naxos and Santorini, a hilly island with a rough, irregular outline. From above it is almost empty inland, with bare hills and valleys and only a few roads. Most of its life is concentrated on the west coast, where a deep bay shelters the port and the main village rises on the slope above.
Chora sits on a hillside above the harbour, its whitewashed lanes forming a dense, tangled pattern, with windmills along the ridge. A road runs down to the long beach at Mylopotas, and another winds across the island to the southern bay of Manganari. The rest of the coast breaks into coves reached mostly by track or by boat.
An old tradition holds that Homer died and was buried on Ios, and a site in the north of the island is associated with his tomb. Today it is known for summer nightlife and beaches. An Ios map poster keeps the island's structure simple: harbour, hill village, beach, and the wide, quiet spaces in between.
The hill village above the port, with narrow stepped lanes and windmills on the crest. On the poster it forms a compact knot of lines against the open hills.
A long, curved beach southeast of Chora, reached by a short road. It forms one of the smoothest arcs on the island's otherwise jagged coastline.
A deep, sheltered bay on the west coast where the ferries arrive. It cuts sharply into the outline and anchors the island's small cluster of settlement.

Koteā ko Ios
Ios is often tied to memorable summers with friends, and it also draws people back for its quieter beaches and walks. A map of the whole island is a fitting way to remember one particular season.
