Ishii is a town in Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku, a short distance west of the city of Tokushima. It lies on the broad alluvial plain of the Yoshino River, one of the largest rivers on the island. From above, the landscape is almost entirely flat, and the town's residential streets sit among farmland crossed by narrow roads and irrigation channels.
The built-up area is not a single dense block but a series of clusters strung along roads and the railway that runs across the plain. Between them runs a close network of farm roads and small channels, which gives the map a fine, even texture. To the south the ground rises into the wooded hills that edge the valley.
