Te mapa
Isumi lies on the Pacific coast of the Bōsō Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture. The city was formed in 2005 by merging three towns, including Ōhara, and it stretches along the coast and inland into gently rolling hills, rice fields and small river valleys.
From above, the coastline is long and varied, with sandy beaches, rocky capes and the fishing harbour at Ōhara. Inland, villages sit along valleys and main roads, while forested hills separate them. The Isumi Railway, a small local line, winds inland from Ōhara through the countryside.
The Isumi Railway is known for its small trains running through fields of rapeseed flowers in spring. An Isumi map poster brings together the sea, the harbour and the quiet countryside, showing a coastal city spread across a wide area rather than gathered around a single centre.
The fishing port at Ōhara is one of the main features of the coast, its breakwaters and basins forming sharp, geometric shapes against the curve of the shoreline.
The local railway line winds inland from the coast through rice fields and villages, a thin, meandering line that connects the scattered parts of the city.
Inland, low hills, valleys and rice paddies create a finely divided landscape, with small settlements strung along roads and rivers between wooded slopes.

Koteā ko Isumi
Isumi attracts surfers, people escaping Tokyo for a slower life, and families with long roots in the fishing towns of the Bōsō coast. A map of the city captures both its coastline and its quiet inland valleys.
